Flatlands is a study of visual redundancies created by objects or architecture within established suburban areas or those undergoing new development. I'm interested in simple, linear forms that appear to be decorative either by design or happen-stance. In the case of subjects such as distribution warehouses and highway sound barriers, I'm interested in the attempts at ornamentation to defer attention away from the fact that these are low-cost structures whose designs are dictated purely by their function.
This results in landscapes that are studded with constructions composed of long, horizontal geometry rarely more than two storeys in height. In this series, I wanted to present this standard method of development for what it is: flat and monotonous, yet still in possession of certain visual charm.
